Translation:
I am a simple man; don’t be misled by my name,
People have wrongly accused me; don’t be deceived by the blame.
These sleepless nights have yielded only scattered words,
It’s difficult to be a poet; don’t take on this task.
A casual demeanor, but the conversation is meaningless,
May your journey of seeking be blessed; don’t take the easy path.
When I set foot in this dangerous wilderness,
We’ll see whatever happens; don’t worry about the outcome.
The rays of the sun, your face shines with light,
The day is a strange thing; don’t long for the night.
So far, the passion of determination and faith is with you,
Now reflect on life; don’t dwell on doubts.
If you’ve broken the promise of loyalty, why renew the vow?
Don’t let this desire entrap you; don’t send the message.
Shakeel saw the brilliance of comfort in pain,
Polish the state of your heart; don’t go to the rooftop to see.

The poet speaks of entering a dangerous, uncertain place, representing life’s unpredictable challenges. There’s an acceptance of whatever may come, coupled with advice not to fear the unknown outcomes.5. The Paradox of Day and Night:
In a metaphorical twist, the poet compares the shining rays of the sun to the beloved’s radiant face. He calls the day "a strange thing" and advises against longing for the night, perhaps suggesting that one should embrace the light and the present rather than seeking refuge in darkness.6. Reflection Over Doubt:
The poet encourages a deeper contemplation of life, stressing the importance of maintaining determination and faith. He warns against getting lost in doubts, emphasizing the need to stay focused on the broader picture.7. The Dilemma of Broken Promises:
This couplet explores the futility of renewing a vow once broken. The poet cautions against allowing unfulfilled desires to lead to further entanglements, advising against sending a message that might reopen old wounds.8. Finding Comfort in Pain:
In the final couplet, Shakeel reflects on the paradoxical comfort found in pain. He urges the heart to be polished, refined, and to avoid superficial actions like going to the rooftop to observe the external world. This suggests a deeper inward focus and an understanding that true comfort comes from within.Afzal Shakeel Sandhu’s ghazal is a rich tapestry of introspection, caution, and philosophical musings. It encourages readers to look beyond the surface, to embrace the complexities of life, and to seek meaning in the deeper, often challenging aspects of existence.
